Our research studies have aided the identification and description of the underlying genetic cause of over 70 previously unrecognised genetic disorders, including more than 20 amongst Anabaptist communities.
Through close clinical and diagnostic laboratory collaborations our research studies have led to many families with previously unrecognised conditions receiving a much-needed diagnosis. In turn, this has aided the development of disease-specific management strategies and measurable improvements in clinical and developmental outcomes.
Working with our clinical partners we have developed an extensive community-appropriate educational program. This includes family information days, disease-specific leaflets and practical educational symposia.
In addition, we have developed an extensive searchable clinical database to provide information to medical practitioners, patients and their families about the conditions currently known to be present in Anabaptist communities, which can be accessed through this website.
We are for ever indebted to Dr Harold Cross for his guidance, patience, help and support over many years of the Windows of Hope Project. Dr Cross has committed many years of his life to improving the understanding of the inherited conditions which occur in the Amish and Mennonite communities. We are particular indebted to Dr Cross for the incredible number of hours of work which he dedicated to supporting the development of the disorders database in this website
